    My Final Student Film

After Finishing My Senior Thesis, I Wanted To Keep Creating:

I decided that I was going to take an Independent Study course in my final Semester. It was with the Department’s Technical Director Ethan Murphy. Throughout the majority of my time at Middlebury, he was my go person for figuring out how to rig and film a project!

Being told “this is the best thing you’ve written yet” always creates a funny relationship with your piece of work. This rings especially true when you aren’t anticipating such a strong reaction. With all that said, I am fairly pleased with the fact that I was able to take everything I had learned with my previous projects, and apply it to this.

    My Senior Thesis

This Past January, I completed my senior Thesis:

Although I had stared in January, the real project began the moment I knew I was going to create a senior thesis. My sophomore year. From the moment I had watched the previous senior Thesis projects, I knew that I wanted to create one of my own, and so I decided that I would try and take every film class that the Film Department offered.

Besides learning as much as I could, I also knew that I was only a single person. My project would additionally be defined by those I surrounded myself with. I couldn’t have produced such an ambitious project without each and every single one of their help.

A friend told me months after the making of this project, ” It’s clear at the time of this film, that your directing ability is a few leagues ahead of your writing ability” and I definitely agreed. When it came to this film particularly, by the time I had to film it, it was still underwritten. It definitely needed a bit more time to cook and develop. Despite this, we turned the project into something truly entertaining.

I learned a lot from this project, my biggest takeaway, however, was that regardless of how much you prepare, the future always contains unknowns. So truly, Expect the Unexpected, there’s always a surprise around the corner, and Stay Resilient!

    My First Short Film

When it came to my first ever short film, I treated it like a practice round:

I knew my own inexperience would hold me back in ways that I didn’t know, and so I tried not to stress that as much and delve into the areas that I found interesting. Guided by my professor David Miranda Hardy, Alongside the rest of my classmates, I was able to create a fun and interesting short!
